Four chart words

Match the word to the picture.

Start with four words you will meet on charts. These pictures use hypothetical prices and futures volume.

Price & candle

Price is a number per unit. A candle summarizes one period’s prices.

Price card is one hypothetical number; canonical candle is a picture of a period’s price range.

Trend

Trend is the overall direction across a stretch of chart.

Hypothetical candles rise overall despite two down candles, demonstrating trend across a series.

Volume

Futures volume counts contracts traded in a period. It is not price.

Hypothetical bars count two, five and three futures contracts in successive periods.

Does a taller volume bar mean a higher price?

Show answer

No. It means more contracts traded in that period in this example.
